Electric Vehicles: Implementation Challenges Move into Top Gear
Date: 28.-29. September
Location: Hotel Amigo, Rue de l'Amigo, 1-3, 1000 Brussels
The urgent need to address greenhouse gas emissions means that efforts to bring electric drive vehicles to the mass market must be fast-tracked. Recent years have seen rapid advances in electric and hybrid vehicle technology and it is time now to prove that this low-carbon transport technology - and the market - is ready to cope. But significant challenges still remain. Preparing the electric grid to cope with an upsurge in electric vehicles is central to public acceptance and a number of implementation issues must first be resolved:
- How to organise a market for public e-mobility infrastructure?
- When will there be a mass roll-out of the electric vehicles with a standardised grid-vehicle connection? Will the vehicle be able to communicate with the electricity grid to ensure intelligent charging?
- How does electricity as a transport fuel work? What are the synergies with renewable energy sources and smart grids?
An outline of the EU policy priorities, followed by an executive panel discussion among CEOs of the European automotive, engineering and electricity industry will take place on 28 September evening.
The following day, 29th September, experts from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the automotive, ECT and electricity industries will provide insights and possible solutions on the electrification of the transport sector.
